Subject: Elevator and Escalator Maintenance and Upgrades
Date: 3/5/2020
Maintenance and upgrades must be done to the escalators and elevators throughout campus being as they are slow and inefficient with moving students through the buildings.
Summary
Students, Teachers, and Patrons of the CCNY Campus constantly have to deal with lack of access to speedy and reliable facilities to travel through the buildings, especially the elevators and escalators. There needs to be much more care and action taken into making sure they are always running at the best they can.
Discussion
As you may know, the escalator and elevator in many of the buildings at CCNY (including the NAC, Shepherd Hall, etc.) all face the issue of poorly maintained and slow escalators and elevators. For years, issues pertaining to these facilities should have been resolved. Elevators in the NAC and Shepherd Hall take large amounts of time to come and can make it hard for those that need to get to higher floors for classes, meeting, and such. It is a struggle to get to higher floors for many people, especially for older students, professors, and those with disabilities. The escalators are no better of an option for students, they are constantly down for repairs and blocked off, so many students and faculty are stuck either walking up as far as 8 floors or waiting for the slow elevators which will likely be filled with people.
Recommendation
The best course of action to take is do a major overhaul of the elevator and escalators during the summer term, being as that is the least trafficked time for the campus. Hiring much more competent contractors that can truly bring an end to the slow, inefficient elevators and escalators. This will in turn allow students, faculty, and visitors to easily travel around the campus with ease.
